How many revision rounds to include, and how to charge for extra ones
Two rounds is fair and normal. But a number nobody enforces is a number nobody respects.
Three moves, set at the start
- Name the rounds in numbers, on the quote. Not "revisions included" buried in a paragraph. "This includes two rounds of revisions per video. Further rounds are billed at X." The price for round three exists before round one begins.
- Count them out loud as you go. "Here's version two, this is the second of your two included rounds." The client always knows where they are against the line.
- Have the money conversation when the next round is requested, not after the work. Make it a choice they control, before any work happens, with no invoice landing out of nowhere.
Why this protects the relationship
Owners avoid these moves because they think a boundary will cost them the client. The opposite is true. The owner who blows up a relationship does it precisely because he had no boundary, then improvised one under pressure. You're not being difficult by counting rounds, you're being clear, and clear is the most generous thing you can be with someone spending real money with you.
